A Smoking Wreck in Beirut

I'm just finishing Kitchen Confidential, a must read for any H.S.T. fan, food lover, restaurant worker, bon vivant (I'm refering to drink and drugs here), or anybody just looking for an entertaining as hell read. Bourdain is an insightful traveller and storyteller, which is why I'm looking forward to tonight's episode of No Reservations.

  1. I just watched that tonight, and I was struck, as was Mr. Bourdain, about how surreal the whole mess was. How tragic.

Incidentally, Reza Aslan was on The Daily Show, and pointed out how the big loser in that whole mess was...us.

    Nice.

  2. That's the problem with the Arab-Israeli conflict: No matter what happens, we lose. Watching those bombs dropped on Lebanon, I couldn't help thinking that I paid for them. It's like seeing one of those self-congratulatory road construction signs that say "your tax dollars at work."

  3. "Bad road ahead."

    "Steep incline."

    "No stopping. No Passing."

    "Next rest area: None."

And unfortunately the sign in front of the White House reads:

    "Slow children at play."

  4. Also in front of the White House: "DIP"
