I was watching CNN this morning, and Lieberman was talking about his run as an independent and he may win, so let's not uncork the champagne just yet.
However, what I find interesting is his use of the neocon talking point about how the far left has hijacked the Democratic party. He even found the time to take a swipe at Maxine Waters.
How this plays out in November will be interesting and of crucial importance, because our Constitution is at stake. Really.
Bloggers keep blogging.
For the NeoCons the hijack talking point is a criticism. For the rest of us it's a rallying point. The Dems lost 2 presidential elections going centrist against their constituency. That phenomenon is finally trickling down to congressional races, a lesson Lieberman learned the hard way.
ReplyDeleteOpposition to the war, support of constitutional rights, and support of a right to abortion ARE the centrist positions.
ReplyDeleteLieberman fucked the party starting with his leading the pitchforks and torches crowd against Clinton's Cock.
As shown last night in the Cynthia McKinney rejection down in Decatur, it was precisely the moderates who are finally taking control of the party instead of letting neocons like Lieberman and fuckwits like McKinney destroy it through their infighting.
You make a good point Covington--one you've made often. It just goes to show how completely the Right has hijacked the language around politics and social issues. Even I'm using their definitions and terminology.
ReplyDeleteHere's a bit of Howard Dean's statement yesterday:
ReplyDelete"Lamont's courage and conviction on Iraq will make him a good Senator. But his positions on all the important issues -- on Iraq, but also balancing the budget, getting every American health insurance, and solving the energy crisis -- will make him a great Senator. These are not just the values of the Democratic Party, they are mainstream American values, and they are Ned Lamont's values."
Yesterday the system worked wonderfully. The primary fight was a fight for control of the agenda of the Democratic party. Going forward, the press will still give all the attention to infighting, backstabbing, Bush apologists, "black bloc" anarchists, etc., to push the storyline they think is sexy.
But the reality is that the Democratic party platform is precisely lined up with the interests, needs, and priorities of the vast majority of the country, not pulling it left or pushing it right.
Progress is straight ahead. everything else turns into a circle.
