  1. Democratic Senate. Democratic House. Yeah, Baby, dat's what I'M talkin' 'bout!

Yet in all of my zeal for a new, vibrant, rejuvenated polity, the better angels of my nature kick in and remind me that in full blush of this historic political shift and tide we ought well to remember that we have promises to keep and miles to go before we sleep in working for the common good, put much more eloquently, however, lo these many years ago:

I am loth to close. We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory, stre[t]ching from every battle-field, and patriot grave, to every living heart and hearthstone, all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature.

-Abraham Lincoln, Innaugural Address (closing paragraph), 1861

  2. Are we headed for civil war? I've heard some people suggest that the conservative movement that's buoyed Bush and his policies is payback for that terrible ass-kicking the North gave the South.

  3. I bought a bumper sticker at the Army surplus store that says, "North 1-South 0: Halftime."

  6. Sorry I missed the Night To Remember.

But I do have to say that beating George "Macaca? I just made that word up" Allen is my favorite moment of the 2006 Election.

Gumby could've beaten him and I'd still be pleased. And Jim Webb is a fine candidate, so it's like whipped cream. That would be a good bumper sticker if Jim Webb ever runs for President: "He's Like Whipped Cream."

    Who could argue?

There's this weird, goofy optimism coming over me that I haven't felt since the '90s. Or maybe I've just had too much to drink.

Congratulations, to all of the true and patient believers.

couldn't agree more. I think it was November 1996 the last time i felt this hopeful about our nation's future.
