Christ, we're no where near Primary Season and yet, here we are, talking candidates.
The truth is that the media has virtually annointed Hillary since she ran for the Senate, and perhaps, she annointed herself, choosing to run out of New York as opposed to Arkansas, where Bill was Governor, or Chicago, where she's originally from. It would seem that Hillary, in a way, feels entitled to this.
What seems to get lost in all of this is that what exactly makes make Hillary entitled to the Presidency of the United States? Because she was First Lady, as she claimed on Olbermann a couple of nights ago. Or maybe its her farsighted support of the War in Iraq, which she lied about in the same interview?
It would seem, while the country is calling for change, the only change she wants is a change of name. It's chilling, really, to think about the last twenty years of government being Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton, almost dynastic in its character. The same suspicions that we had about Bush are applicable here: Are we so starved of leadership that those with the most money win? Certainly, Clinton has by far the biggest warchest of her rivals, but all that was loathsome about how King George got here in the first place can be seen here as well "Some are born great, some have greatness upon them, and get it as a graduation present (or a wedding present).
The worst part is that we need desperately need change, and the country is ready for a seismic shift from radical "conservatives" and their corporatist agenda and imperial aspirations to a reality based, progressive agenda. The GOP is a sitting duck right now, and should Hillary be the nominee, we may very well be looking at Guiliani taking the oath some cold January day, and wonder what the fuck happened...
We need a woman President, that is for sure...Just not this woman, and yet, I fear that some are motivated by the temptation of making history by supporting the first viable female Presidential Candidate. This is unfortunate, because history need not be made with a female President, or a Black President, or a Latino President. The history here is that we found someone to rebuild, to undo what was insidious and corrupt in our Nation's long dark night of the soul, to find our way back to our creed.
Hillary Clinton is not that person.
Anyone who lives or works in a deep-red area can tell you that we'll be hip-deep in militia boys if Hillary is even nominated. If she is elected, I wouldn't recommend getting within 500 yards of a Federal Building. (Anyone doubting this should take a trip to Clermont County.)
ReplyDeleteShe's just not worth it.

The media may have annointed Hillary Clinton as the nominee, but Iowa voters have something to say about that. Currently, John Edwards leads in Iowa with 25% to Clinton's 15%.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, Wizard.
I will vote for her if she wins the Democratic nomination. But I will do so begrudgingly...
ReplyDeleteShe is not the person to lead this nation right now. She is as polarizing of an individual in politics today.
we need a fresh voice, and a fresh direction, but someone with some experience and mediation/negotiation skills (the opposite of what we see right now).
I hate the 2 year Presidential campaign, so i'm not really following the candidates that closely, but i was happy to see Bill Richardson enter the race and look forwar to hearing his platform as the months trudge along.
Oh, I'm a professional left-leaning female, and I have many friends and coworkers who fit that same description. None of them like, or want to to vote for Hillary. And the men, forget it...they hate her. So I don't know, i can't see her playing well in Iowa if she's not playing well in NYC.
...that wasn't anonymous, that was me. but your comments won't let me log in.

I will vote for a third-party nutcase or possibly the GOP if she's on the Democratic ticket. I don't think people on the coasts realize what lunatics live in red states. It's like the army of Beetlejuice--say "Hillary Clinton" three times and a bunch of raving brain-dead freaks appear.
ReplyDeleteI don't especially dislike her but she's like blood in the water to wingnut sharks.
Mark (Blogger locks me out too)
I wonder if the failure to log in has anything to do with the upgrades to blogspot, and its partnership with Google. I've been having problems all morning.
ReplyDeleteOnce I upgraded, Blogger refused to recognize me. I'm moving to Wordpress soon so I'm not too upset.
