Ha!

Canadians healthier than Americans, study finds

"These findings raise serious questions about what we're getting for the $2.1 trillion we're spending on health care this year," said Dr. David Himmelstein, an associate professor of medicine at Harvard.

"We pay almost twice what Canada does for care, more than $6,000 for every American, yet Canadians are healthier, and live two to three years longer," Himmelstein added in a statement.

What we're getting is a bloated bureaucracy, American-style, where the bureaucrats are in the board room rather than in government and their incentives are often not geared toward the effective delivery of good health care.

  2. I think I remember reading about a similar finding when comparing Americans to the Brits. I wouldn't be surprised if we found the same for all centrally controlled health systems.

  3. Hm...the comments about tax cuts I put below seem like they'd fit here, at least in terms of the right-wing mindset.

It's better for them if some people have crappy health care and they get $20 more on their refund every year. Those yellow ribbons don't buy themselves, y'know!

  4. What the yellow ribbon people don't understand is that if we had a Canadian-style system they would get better care, live longer and healthier, AND pay less for it. They've been brainwashed by the corporate interests.
