I'm not sure I agree that media outlets aren't giving Coulter a soapbox for ratings reasons. Yes there are plenty of attention seekers like her that don't get the same coverage, but I don't think this is as much an endorsement of her views as it is an endorsement of her celebrity. Like it or not, Coulter is a proven marketable brand. That's all the media care about.
And how come George Carlin didn't tear her to shreds?
After reading the Leno transcript at Media Matters, I understand Carlin's silence. All he had to do was sit there and let Coulter assassinate her own character. He's just minding his own business and she's turning around insulting and trying to provoke him, but he didn't take the bait. Way to go George. Coulter is a paranoid lunatic. She reminds me of the tobacco exec that Martin Short played on SNL.
