Well...
How do you think this will play out?
"The Democrats rode to power last November on the public’s discontent with the war in Iraq, but have struggled -- long and hard and often to little effect -- to move beyond opposition to President Bush’s policies. Now, by a vote of 218 to 212, they have coalesced around a plan of their own."
It's a good start, but bloody cynical. It gives Dems a chance to say they voted to stop the war knowing full-well the President will veto. Maybe I'm the one who's too cynical, though not compared to the Republicans who prove that party loyalty is more important than the wellfare of the nation.
ReplyDeleteBTW, what's up with Kucinich voting Nay? http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2007/roll186.xml
Honestly, I was most heartened by Pelosi leading a round of applause in the House chambers for the liberal Democrats who compromised so that something would actually be passed. You'd never see an acknowledgement of the validity of difference in a GOP-led chamber. For the Democrats to continue success -- they need to show that having variation in ideas and orthodoxy is the strength of the party, not that it's "Dems in disarray."
