Music for Angry Simpletons

From Friday's The Henry Rollins Show: The Stooges doing "I'm Fried"

If you get IFC, watch this episode, and watch this series. It's one of the best things on TV.

Enjoy.

  1. Hey man, did you hear that Johnny Ramone is a leading voice for the conservatives? I mean, here's the money quote:

Take for example the thriving Republican punk music scene. A read of Steve Miller's 2004 article in the Washington Times on the battle of ideas in the culture of punk rock music is something I associate with. Not only is punk rock great music, but it's always been a ripe battleground for political thought and discussion.

And, as a Republican, I'm proud to have John Cummings in our Party. You may know John as Johnny Ramone, of one of the best bands of all time, the Ramones. The Ramones are largely regarded as being the first punk rock band and they happen to be Republicans. In fact, Johnny Ramone was quoted in 2004 as saying, "I send money to the [Republican National Committee] and to Bush/Cheney. I will argue politics with people all day long. I am one of the few Republicans out here."

Impressive that he's still cranking away for ol' GW from the grave...

  2. The Republican punk music scene? Is that possible? I guess it depends on your interpretation of something like "Kill the Poor." Maybe "Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables" has something to do with Jeff Gannon's new gig (http://www.crooksandliars.com/2007/05/04/jeff-gannon-spokesman-for-the-international-bible-reading-association/ ).

  3. Conservative Punks? I think they're called hammer skins. You can usually tell them by the armband.
