I Feel the Same way

This guy is rethinking America. I'll bet he's not the only one:

"As a black nationalist, I have considered myself an American only as a technicality or an accident of birth. I’ve never hoisted the red, white and blue, only the red, black and green. I gave up on the American dream a longtime ago. I have worked and looked forward to autonomy and self-determination in our communities. I never imagined that I would live long enough to see an African-American president. I never even believed that I would live to see a black Miss America. But America fooled me! Even as I predicted an Obama nomination and then a presidential win, the reality of what happened on Nov. 4 still has me totally stunned."

And Speaking of Vitriol...

Wonder what the frothing psychosis known as Hillary is 44 is up to?

"Such joy! Hillary Clinton constantly in the news.
Such joy! Bill Clinton constantly in the news.
Hillary and Bill Clinton constantly in the news is a buzz-kill for those high on Hopium. For us, it’s ambrosia."

More like angel dust, but hey, who knows? Hillary may make a fine SecState...if everything is above boards...

Auto Bailout

There is a lot of hostility going around concerning our badly fucked economic situation, and people are justly confused, pissed off, and scared about the state of things.

In the wake of a crushing repudiation of the its fiscal rape and plunder (blunder) ideology, and its asinine dreams of empire, the Right (and here), in a last ditch attempt to burn down the future, is screaming for blood of the Big 3.

However, it is the ill ease of some on the left that I wish to address.

You want to know what is driving this vitriol, this fanaticism?

"The UAW has handcuffed GM, Ford, and Chrysler with unreasonable and unrealistic burdens. Their balance sheets will never improve until they shed this weight. "

Understand this, friends: The Big Three must be saved for any number of reasons, not the least of which is that this country would effectively not make a goddamn thing aside from debtors anymore, or that the men and women who gave thirty, forty years in these places, doing the best they could with the shitty management they were directed by (ask a UAW member, ten years ago, about this situation, and they'd tell you it was coming. They'd also tell you that the greed and quick buck lust made their bosses hump the Dodge FuckU mobiles rather than smart, green cars) would jeopardize the pensions and benefits these people worked their asses of for.

But almost at parity with this human disaster is the disaster for the future: The GOP has been waging all out war on Labor since Reagan, and, because of the sophoriffic nature of materialism, they've allowed manufacturing to be shipped out, and thus, unions to be busted. The only hope, in our system, of establishing a fair and just society in the face of massive corporate power is to have organized labor at all levels, and the purpose here of trying to deny the bailout money is the ultimate union busting gambit: Ford, GM, Chrysler go under, no more jobs, no more UAW.

This would be a coup d'etat for Labor in the country, and you can begin to look for the roll back of all Labor has done for our country.

While You Weren't Looking

Another "brilliant" Bush end around.

Remember, this guy's still got a couple months to royally fuck this country up.

The (New) New Deal

The thing I don't believe many folks have understood about the historic nature of Obama's run is that, for all of this glossy newness, it is very much a repudiation of the the New Left, the left that came to prominence in the 1960's, and the left that the G.O.P have been chafing themselves gleeful on ever since. What Obama, and his vision, and those of us who worked for him, see as the future is not the paisley light show platitudes, bourgoisie revolution-with GUITARS- that characterize the vague recollections of so many of the principal players, now as stale as the next day's roaches, but something else, something considerably more ancient and sepia toned, more Woody Guthrie than MC5, which takes the energy and moral authority that prompted the sixties without its silly, classist excesses.

What American needs now is a New Deal.

Wait until I tell the Central Committee about this!

When I worked at the library, I would occasionally run into paranoid fellows who still saw a communist behind every tree, and in their social security cards.

I was under the impression that the John Birch Society, like the Whigs, were a quaintly weird political blip, until I met these folks.

Anyway, just another scene from this historic day.

Wow.

I got to my polling place, The Mother of God Church, at around ten after six, and I was something like the 25th person in line. By the time I voted (a touch screen, by the way-ugh), there were probably 45 people in line.

Funny...I don't remember that last time.

Bittersweet

For what its worth, my thoughts go out to the Obama family.

The Rape of the Lock: The Last Days of McCain/Palin

Watching McCain stump today, something occured to me:

We shall go on to the end, we shall drill in Alaska we shall drill in the seas and oceans, we shall drill with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we drill off Islands, whatever the cost may be, we shall drill on the beaches, we shall drill on the landing grounds, we shall drill in the fields and in the streets, we shall drill in the hills; we shall never surrender (to socialism)...
Where's Joe the Plumber?
